Draw a Portrait of Shakespeare’s Heroines on Friday, Sept. 30 from noon to 7 p.m. at the Education and Community Center, The Korean Church of Boston, 32 Harvard St.
An art and music show to commemorate 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. Features a selection of original antique prints depicting female characters from Shakespeare’s plays, on view from Sept. 30 to Oct. 8. Special for ArtWeek, audiences are invited to join the show by drawing their self-portrait as one of the heroines of Shakespeare. A wall will be prepared for displaying finished works. In addition to the show there will be two concerts presenting virtuoso music from Shakespeare’s time. Concerts will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Free.
“Connectionography” public art installation launch on Saturday, Oct. 1 from noon to 4 p.m., Brookline Arts Center, 86 Monmouth St. A multi-location, public art installation presented by the Brookline Arts Center inviting people to find a whimsical and encouraging way to accept, have fun with and establish connection to others. Includes four interactive light boxes that will be placed throughout Brookline for a period of two months. The four individual pieces, when finally mounted together, form a single piece to be hung permanently at the BAC. Special for ArtWeek, the launch of “Connectionography” includes a sneak-peek of the installation at the BAC before it is installed throughout Brookline. The event also includes free art activities for all ages that are inspired by the piece. Free.
On Sunday, Oct. 2, there will be a Blake Park Walking Tour from 2 until 3:30 p.m. at Brookline High School, 115 Greenough St. Walkers explore how the Blake family estate on the lower part of Brookline’s Aspinwall Hill, a large tract of open land renowned for its landscaping, was transformed between World Wars into a new neighborhood — despite failed plans, untimely deaths and financial scandal that repeatedly threatened the project. On Tuesday, Oct. 4, there’s a childcare forum from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Denny Room, Brookline Health Department Building, 11 Pierce St. Hosted by the Brookline Commission for Women. Panelists will speak on the benefits and challenges of various types of day care options that are available for families with children in the newborn to 5 year age range. Representatives from BEEP, Brookline Health Department, the Brookline Police Department, and others will discuss safety, proper licensing and background checks. On Tuesday, Oct. 5, “Heather & Johnny” a Boston-based, vintage country-western duo with a guitar, a ukulele, rich two-part harmony and a bicycle built for two will perform in Hunneman Hall of the Main library starting at 7 p.m.
